Change an Image Background

Batch exports transparent PNGs at original dimensions unless you apply a product photo template.

AI cutout is free. After every 3 successful cutouts, choose a sharing platform to close the prompt and continue. Failed or cancelled runs do not count.

No. Classic works without AI. Remove a simple background, use the magic wand or draw a lasso. AI cutout is optional for complex subjects.

Use a solid or nearly solid background with a subject of a different color. Gradients, shadows, subjects touching the border and matching colors may need a magic wand or lasso. An uncertain background is left unchanged.

Your images stay on your device. Sharing uses a prepared Cutout promotional image and the tool link, never your own images.

JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP up to 25 MiB. Images must also fit within 24 million pixels and 16,384 pixels on either side. Invalid replacements leave your current image in place.

Select Blur original background after making a cutout. Adjust the strength without another AI run; 0 shows the original background. PNG and JPG include the blur, while Mask PNG stays unchanged. This uses the available original image and does not reconstruct hidden or already removed scenery.

The clicked color becomes transparent immediately. Contiguous limits removal to connected pixels. Turn it off to include separated areas of the same color. Adjust Tolerance to recompute your current clicks without losing earlier brush or lasso edits.

Edge pixels can mix foreground and background colors. Slightly increase Tolerance, zoom in and use the brush, or add a little Feather. Results depend on the image; Classic does not recognize hair or objects.

Use Keep clicked area instead or keep a closed lasso selection. Undo and Redo restore completed edits. Restore paints the original image back. Reset edits restores the starting mask, either the original or the last successful AI result. A successful AI run starts new history, limited to 48 MiB or 40 steps.

First use needs an internet connection and may take longer. Later runs can reuse files saved in this browser. Your image stays on your device.

After AI finishes, choose Keep subject or Keep background under AI result. Switching uses the existing result and does not cost another use. Removed areas become transparent; hidden scenery is not reconstructed.

Yes. Use the lasso, polygon lasso, magic wand, erase, restore and feather after AI finishes. Keep selection only keeps pixels that remain; use Restore to bring back an area AI removed. The lasso does not guide AI recognition. Manual edits and repeated exports do not cost AI uses.

Choose a sharing platform to close the reminder. It opens a composer with the supported text or link preview; you decide whether to publish. Copying text or downloading the image does not close the reminder.

PNG keeps transparency with Transparent selected. JPG uses a white background when Transparent is selected. The checkerboard is only a preview and never goes into the exported file.

Remove the background with Classic or AI, refine product edges or portrait hair, then select Transparent and download PNG. JPG cannot keep transparency.

Choose a solid color or upload a local background image. Background images fill the output without changing the subject proportions. Mask PNG saves the final grayscale alpha: white keeps, black removes, and gray is partly transparent.

Start with mint, choose a custom color or upload a background photo. Photos fill the canvas; adjust their horizontal and vertical position to choose the crop.

Open Outline & shadow to enable either effect. Set the outline color and width, or the shadow softness, opacity and offset. Effects work locally without another AI run.

Open Canvas layout, enable Arrange subject on a canvas and choose dimensions and padding. 100% fits the visible pixels; reduce the scale to leave more space. Drag with Move subject or use arrow keys. Layout settings stay when replacing an image.

Export uses the completed mask and background at the original size, or the canvas dimensions when layout is enabled. Compare and Mask use the same placement. Zoom only changes your view. Wait for processing before downloading.
